Central to the Trade Exchange technology is the Communicator, which manages dataflow and validation. The Communicator, built on a J2EE Java platform, is a robust and scalable data hub and router. The fully RosettaNet compliant system is capable of sending and receiving RosettaNet RNIF 2.0 compliant messages. Upon receiving the response, it verifies the signature, unpacks it and stores the XML content to disk. Message signatures, timeouts and message flow checks are all performed automatically.

Powerful validation within Communicator is customizable down to a fine level of detail to suit an individual organization's requirements. The Transaction Database stores a copy of all transactions (message archive) that pass through the Trade Engine and provides a full audit trail and reporting capability. All transactions are stored in the Transaction Database in XML data clobs (character large objects). The Transaction Database also stores the Trade Agreements, PIP guidelines and State Engines for the PIPs. The Communicator logs data flows in a dedicated Transaction Database for centralized data storage, efficient flow tracking and management reporting.
